Koenig & Tiritilli is proud to have served the GLBT community for many years. We have worked closely with Lambda Legal Defense Fund, the nation's oldest organization working for gay and lesbian rights, as well as the American Civil Liberties Union.
Koenig & Tiritilli has been a part of numerous landmark cases before the Nebraska Supreme Court and Nebraska Court of Appeals. These include:

Trial counsel in Hassenstaab v. Hassenstaab, involving a mother's right to continue custody after having a same sex relationship.

Local counsel for over 20 national and state organizations who submitted an amicus curiae brief in the cases of Brandon v. Richardson County, a civil suit brought by the family of Teena Brandon following her murder.

Local counsel for organizations who submitted an amicus curiae brief in In Re Luke, the first same sex couple adoption appealed to the Nebraska Supreme Court.

Counsel for lesbian adoptive mother in Russell v. Bridgens, the Nebraska Supreme Court case in which the court unanimously reversed the lower court decision to not recognize her adoption.
In addition to litigation on behalf of GLBT clients, the firm is active in important legislative issues, which have included:

Opposition to Constitutional Amendment 416.

Support for hate crimes legislation on a state and national level; and

Support for legislation in the Nebraska Unicameral to end employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
Susan has been a long time volunteer in the GLBT community. Her volunteer work has included Nebraska AIDS project volunteer, a trainer for GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) helping to create safe schools for all students, a parelist for PLFAG (Parents & Friends of Gays and Lesbians) and public speaker on the issue of gay and lesbian rights. For many years, Susan taught Women and the Law at Creighton University School of Law, addressing such topics as same sex parenting and lesbian legal issues.
Koenig & Tiritilli is dedicated to improving the education of others in the legal profession about GLBT rights. Angela and Susan co-authored "Regardless of Sexual Orientation" which was published in the Creighton Law Review. Susan is currently working on an aricle for the St. Louis Public Law Review special edition on sexual orientation.
